  • Your therapist will explain the nature and limits of confidentiality.

  • You therapist will talk with you about fees and explain the Medicare rebate system in more detail if appropriate.

  • Please bring a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to the first appointment if you want to claim consultations with Medicare. Please see Rebates section below, for more information.

For individuals who are remote clients and are unable to attend appointments in person, we offer consultations either over the phone or via Skype.

How long does each session take?

All sessions are 50 minutes in length.

How do I obtain a referral?

In order to see a psychologist you are not required to obtain a referral unless you want to claim through the Medicare Better Access initiative.

To access the Medicare Better Access initiative you must visit your General Practitioner, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician to see whether you are eligible and, if so, obtain a written referral under a Mental Health Care Plan.

How much does a consultation cost?

Please contact us to find out more about our costs.

Can I claim any consultation fees?

As of 1 November 2011, under the Better Access initiative, Medicare rebates for eligible people (persons with a diagnosed mental disorder) was capped to 10 individual allied mental health services per calendar year. If you are eligible to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you can attend up to 10 Medicare rebatable sessions per calendar year. In addition to their individual allied mental health services, individuals may also be referred for up to 10 group services per calendar year.

Private Health Funds

If you are a member of a private health fund you may be eligible for a rebate for psychological services. Please contact your private health fund to see whether you can receive any further rebates.
