What do I need to know about attending the first session?

  • Your therapist will discuss the process of therapy and gather a comprehensive assessment of your presenting problem(s) and history.

  • Your therapist will explain the nature and limits of confidentiality.

  • You therapist will talk with you about fees and explain the Medicare rebate system in more detail if appropriate.

  • Please bring a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to the first appointment if you want to claim consultations with Medicare. Please see Rebates section below, for more information.

For individuals who are remote clients and are unable to attend appointments in person, we offer consultations either over the phone or via Skype.

How long does each session take?

How do I obtain a referral?

In order to see a psychologist you are not required to obtain a referral unless you want to claim through the Medicare Better Access initiative.

To access the Medicare Better Access initiative you must visit your General Practitioner, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician to see whether you are eligible and, if so, obtain a written referral under a Mental Health Care Plan.
